about us

Tālah is a haven for those seeking mindful fashion choices. Rooted in a commitment to timeless elegance over fleeting trends, our brand epitomizes easy, comfortable style. Every piece is crafted with an unwavering dedication to responsible practices, ensuring they become cherished staples in your wardrobe. Tālah effortlessly marries fashion with conscience, inviting you to embrace a wardrobe that reflects both your values and your style sensibilities. Our pieces are not trend-led, designed to stand the test of time and become cherished heirlooms. Crafted from natural fabrics, they offer both comfort and a more thoughtful approach to dressing, embodying a path towards a more considered tomorrow, while also extending support to the Indian cottage industry.

Our design philosophy revolves around creating minimal, timeless, comfort oriented, fine and luxurious handmade products. Fewer but better is the idea behind everything we do.

Each product goes through several hands and geographies, bringing together a tapestry of stories and cultures. Handcrafted from scratch, each finished product is the fruit of endless days of hard work by a team of weavers, dyers, craftsmen and tailors.

Clothes are carefully hand stitched and detailed, integrating the traditional Indian craft practices of handblock printing, natural dyeing, sewing, and darning - often made in hand woven natural fabrics in various parts of the country. Our clothing cannot be all things to everyone, but we aim to support as many folks as possible through our products

Small Scale Production

At Tālah, we take pride in designing our products in small and micro batches. We focus on creating collections that are season free or for just two seasons –winter/fall & spring/ summer instead of multiple micro seasons. Small scale production means better control of the product. The joy of wearing something that you know is one of a small number is hard to beat.

The concept is to build a perfect wardrobe not influenced by fashion trends, but with timeless and accessible pieces that will endure across seasons, from one collection to another.

Heritage

We believe heritage is about preserving traditional techniques, artisan methods and ideas that have been used for centuries. There is a reason why the clothes of by-gone eras survived to be sold as vintage.

We want you to wear our pieces for years and want them to be treasured, passed down and remembered, as every piece we make is breathable, handmade, timeless and comfortable. These are designed to sustain wardrobes of generations. Each piece is made with integrity and kindness from the highest quality materials, and created by skilled craftsmen of India. The techniques and skills of the craftsmen should be cherished and protected.

Zero waste

In some ways, zero waste is not new. Throughout history, consumers have adopted similar practices, like in earlier times when our grandmothers fashioned new outfits from old ones, and created cushions, curtains, cloth bags, and many other useful items from worn sarees, dupattas, and dresses. The difference today is that it has become an ethical choice, as well as something born out of necessity.

As a business that produces new physical goods that go out into the world, we believe it is our responsibility to make every effort to minimize and mitigate any harm caused by our operations. We try to analyse the entire lifecycle of our products and continuously make improvements to extend usability and reduce waste wherever possible. We keep our waste to a minimum and strive to create more with leftover fabrics.

As part of our Waste Not Project, we follow several strategies:

  • Using special pattern-cutting processes to reduce or eliminate textile waste.

  • Limited production runs to avoid overproduction.

  • Made-to-order pieces created specifically for you.

  • Textile pieces and scraps from our core and previous collections are repurposed to create accessories, children’s clothing, layering elements, and garment facings.

  • We also source deadstock block-printed fabrics from printers in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The next step is making thoughtful use of these materials by designing products for our SAHA (previously JOY) collection, creating pieces such as pouches, baby shoes, iPad sleeves, small potlis, accessories, and toys. Any remaining fabric is further used for garment facings, loops, and fabric buttons.

Additionally, we collaborate with PANS NGO to transform leftover fabrics into handcrafted items such as fabric toys and brooches, giving these materials a second life while supporting meaningful community work.

talah family

India is not all about trading and money. Working here has a lot to do with relationships and people. Relationships help people open up and trust your ideology. The Tālah family is small team of dedicated, talented and focused people.

From when we started nearly five years ago, we have always tried to build ethical relationships with our craftsmen - the weavers, artisans, dyers, printers, tailors, and embroiderers from the different geographies of our country to bring forth our designs. We believe in sustaining these relationships with collaborations over long periods of time instead of using their skills for just one season or a collection.
